The Touch of Jesus

In Matthew 8:1-4, we encounter a powerful story of Jesus healing a man with leprosy. This encounter reveals important truths about Jesus' character and his power to bring transformation to our lives.

What Was Life Like for Someone with Leprosy?
Leprosy in biblical times was essentially a death sentence. Those diagnosed would:

• Be completely isolated from family and friends
• Never experience human touch or affection again
• Suffer physical deterioration as their body slowly decayed
• Lose all feeling and sensation in their body
• Face certain death with no known cure

How Did Jesus Respond to the Leper?
The leper approached Jesus saying "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean." This reveals his uncertainty about whether Jesus would want to help someone as unclean as him. Jesus' response was remarkable:

• He reached out and touched the untouchable
• He declared "I am willing"
• He completely healed the man instantly
• He restored him to community

What Does This Teach Us About Jesus?
This encounter reveals several key truths:

• Jesus is willing to touch those society rejects
• His power can bring instant transformation
• No one is too far gone or too unclean
• One touch from Jesus can change everything
• His authority is greater than any disease or darkness

How Does This Apply to Us Today?
Just like the leper, many people today:

• Feel unworthy of God's touch
• Question if Jesus is willing to help them
• Need freedom from things that make them feel unclean
• Long for healing and restoration

The good news is that Jesus is still willing and able to bring transformation through his touch today.

• What areas of your life need Jesus' healing touch?
• Are you holding back from approaching Jesus because you feel unworthy?
• How can you demonstrate evidence of God's transforming power in your life?
• Who in your life needs to experience Jesus' touch through you?

Challenge: 
Take time this week to kneel before Jesus in worship, even in your mess, and invite His transforming touch into your life. Then look for opportunities to be His hands and feet to others who need His touch.
